WXPN and the Philadelphia Film Society Announce
Opening and Closing Films for XPN Music Film Festival
Big Easy Express and Under African Skies to kick off and close fest;
Opening party and additional screenings!
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. April 3, 2012- The opening and closing films for Philadelphia’s first festival solely dedicated to movies about music are in the can! WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Film Society today announced that Big Easy Express will open the XPN Music Film Festival on Thursday, April 26. The film documents Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford & Sons’ 2011 tour. Under African Skies is a documentary film that follows Paul Simon’s journey back to South Africa to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Graceland. It will close the festival on Sunday, April 29.

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) March 2, 2012 – The Philadelphia Film Society and the University of the Arts presents The Artist as a Filmmaker, a monthly film series highlighting world-renowned directors who transitioned their careers from visual artistry to film making. The program serves to expand the annual Philadelphia Film Festival's Masters of Cinema component, educating its audience on the collaboration of multiple art forms, while celebrating the introductory year of the University of the Arts’ School of Film in 2012.

2012 SLATE KICKS OFF WITH SCREENINGS OF 50/50 & DRIVE,
PRECEDING THE DVD/BLU-RAY RELEASE OF BOTH FILMS
WHAT:
Philadelphia Film Society begins the New Year by taking over film programming during the Trocadero Theater’s long-running “Movie Monday” screening series. The weekly series, a notable event amongst film lovers in the Philadelphia area, showcases a range of films from recent releases and cult classics to genre-based indie favorites.
The series will launch on Monday, January 23, 2012 with a screening of Jonathan Levine’s 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen. The following week will include Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. Each film will screen one day prior to its release on DVD and Blu-Ray. Advance copy giveaways will take place a few minutes prior to show time.
Guests are encouraged to arrive before 7:00 p.m. to receive a free drink and bag of popcorn. Those arriving after 7:00 p.m. will be charged a $3 admission fee with a voucher towards a concession item.
All films begin at 8:00pm, doors open at 6:30 pm.
Philadelphia Film Society members receive free admission with their membership card.
All ‘Movie Monday’ events are 21+ years of age, unless otherwise noted.

WHAT:
Philadelphia Film Society debuts its first ever Bloody Christmas Series: 3 Weeks Of Christmas Terror event by including in the series a screening of two fan-favorite films: Hobo With A Shotgun and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, both available now on Blu-ray Disc and DVD from Magnolia Home Entertainment under the Magnet Label.
The evening beings with a special screening of Treevenge, winner of audience award for Best Short Film at the Fantasia Film Festival. Directed by Jason Eisner (Hobo With A Shotgun), the vengeful tale about homicidal Christmas trees will get the audience into the holiday spirit.
“Even crazier than you imagined” (/Film), the winner of the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez SXSW Grindhouse Trailer Competition, Hobo With A Shotgun, is now a full-length “double-barreled mayhem…bad-ass perfect” (Hollywood Reporter) horror thriller. Starring international film legend Rutger Hauer (Sin City, Blade Runner) and produced by Niv Fichman (Blindness, The Red Violin), Hobo With A Shotgun is the explosive tale of one man pushed to his bloody breaking point by the surrounding chaos and violence of the grotesque urban hell in which he lives.
A hit on the festival circuit after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is the winner of the Midnight Audience Award at SXSW, Jury Prize for First Feature at Fantasia, Best Director at The Fantaspoa Film Festival, and Best Motion Picture at The Sitges Film Festival. Alan Tudyk (“Firefly,” “Suburgatory”), Tyler Labine (“Reaper”), and Katrina Bowden (“30 Rock”) all star in the horror/comedy about two backwoods hillbillies caught in a bloody case of mistaken identity.
