Mike Mills is a graphic designer and artist who incorporates both his illustrations and personal experiences when shifting into the filmmaking process. His film BEGINNERS is an autobiographical story which includes still-image montages that peek into the brain of the main character Oliver, modeled after the director himself.

After the film there will be a moderated discussion with Will Schmenner.

About Will Schmenner
As a college student, Will Schmenner ran Doc Films at the University of Chicago. Doc Films is the oldest, continuously run university film group in the country. After college, he was hired to start Block Cinema at Northwestern University, becoming the Block Museum of Art's film and video curator for 8 years. There he programmed dozens of film series and curated exhibitions about early cinema technology, film director Alfred Hitchcock, and artist Douglas Gordon. After spending his twenties in film groups and museum cinemas, he enrolled in University of Pennsylvania's History of Art doctoral program, focusing his studies on the relationship between movies and art history.
