PFS sneak preview

75 Words or Less: PFS Reviews WARRIOR

On Thursday, PFS interns Brittany and Alex went to a screening of Warrior, which comes out in theaters September 9. Mark your calendars!

Brittany Says...
Don’t let the Mixed Marital Arts theme of Warrior fool you into thinking its just another sports story. This film is more about family struggle than MMA, thanks to fantastic performances from the three leads, Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte. The beginning of the movie was nothing special but it set the stage for the intense final scenes. I can’t remember ever being so invested in a final battle.

75 Words or Less: PFS Reviews 50/50

On Tuesday, PFS Members got a sneak preview of 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anjelica Huston, Anna Kendrick, and Bryce Dallas Howard. In case you missed the show, the staff of the Philadelphia Film Society wrote some quick reviews of the film.

Lansie says...
In 50/50 Joseph Gordon-Levitt does an admirable job playing a young man recently diagnosed with cancer, but the ensemble cast didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.

The Devil's Double

We all know the name Saddam Hussein. The name reminds my generation of a conflict that has engulfed much of the world for almost half of our lives. For others, it brings back memories of not only this war but also another in the early 90s. Much less known is the name Uday Hussein, Saddam’s eldest son. However, some say that Uday was just as dangerous, a veritable psychopath who played with anyone he chose. Uday became notorious for brutally punishing his friends, girlfriends, and even athletes who failed to perform.

50/50

Seth Rogen delivers the levity and Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers the skull cap adorned heart, in this surprisingly funny drama about a 27 year-old battling cancer. Based on the real life of screenwriter, Will Reiser.
