VAGABOND - The Artist as a Filmmaker

Description:

Vagabond premiered in 1985 in France where director Agnés Varda studied photography and film. Sandrine Bonnaire won the Best Actress César for her portrayal of the defiant young drifter Mona, found frozen to death in a ditch at the beginning of Vagabond. Agnès Varda pieces together Mona’s story through flashbacks told by those who encountered her (played by a largely nonprofessional cast), producing a splintered portrait of an enigmatic woman. With its sparse, poetic imagery, Vagabond (Sans toit ni loi) is a stunner, and won Varda the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Following the screening a moderated discussion will be held, led by Gerard Hooper.

When first released, Vertigo received unfavorable reviews from critics, but has gone on to become a classic psychological thriller and a film that helped define Hitchcock’s career. VERTIGO stars screen legend James Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life, You Can't Take It With You) as a San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia and investigates the strange activities of an old friend's wife (Kim Novak, Bell Book and Candle), all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. Come see it the first or thousandth time as we screen this classic in gorgeous 35mm!
