Last night PFS offered its members a sneak preview of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, an international story of love, war, faith and fishing. An Arab Sheik from the country of Yemen (Amr Waked) strongly desires to bring the sport of salmon fishing to the desert. Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt) is the account executive of a British company which represents the business interests of the Shiek, and is given the task of finding a fishing expert/scientist, Dr. Fred Jones (Ewan McGregor) to head up the Sheik's project.

On Thursday February 16th PFS members got to see a preview screening of a new police drama starring Woody Harrelson, which actually is the second movie he's made with director Oren Moverman and actor Ben Foster, the first being 2009's The Messenger. In truth, Rampart isn't a crime drama or police exposé, it's a character study of a man who is both extremely articulate and seductive and at the same time, ridiculous and immoral.

Last night PFS members had a chance to see the new action comedy, This Means War. I was pleasantly surprised after seeing the film. The rom-com spy movie, originally scheduled to be released on Valentine’s Day, is clearly designed to be a date-night movie, which often end up falling flat. Although not the best rom-com to be released, the chemistry of the three lead actors (Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon) puts the audience in the perfect mood to enjoy the comedic scenes while the action adds excitement, making it an entertaining film.

Last night at Movie Monday, PFS was proud to present the screening of RESURRECT DEAD: THE MYSTERY OF THE TOYNBEE TILES to a packed house at the Trocadero.

The crowd was excited and intrigued to watch the film that explores the bizarre phenomenon that is the Toynbee tiles. If you've never seen or heard of these tiles do yourself a favor and google it- or better yet watch the film! The documentary follow 3 young men who, through extreme investigation, try to figure out who is this mysterious artist placing these tiles and why he is doing it.

Having recently returned from my annual trip to the Sundance Film Festival, which marks the beginning of the programming season for the Philadelphia Film Festival (PFF), I wanted to share some of my favorite films.

All in all, over my roughly five days in Park City, Utah, I was able to check out 24 films, many of which I enjoyed. Coincidentally, I’m sure, a lot of my personal favorites had nice Philly or PFF ties.

I read that Steven Soderbergh was looking to make a more beautiful, stylistic action film in the vein of the classic James Bond film From Russia With Love or the Michael Caine thriller Funeral in Berlin when he set about to make Haywire.

His other inspiration was professional mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano:

Soderbergh was flipping between channels late one night and stumbled onto one of Carano's fights. "I see Gina coming out.

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards took place last night and this year it was the 20th Philadelphia Film Festival that came out a big winner in terms of programming some of the most notable films of 2011.

From nominees to winners, last Fall's Festival shone through in many of the film-related categories. The Descendants, which won Best Picture and Best Actor (George Clooney) for Motion Picture - Drama, closed out the 20th PFF with a sold out crowd of almost 900 attendees.
