Back in January of last year, it was announced that Sam Raimi’s cult classic horror film ‘Evil Dead’ was being remade by a first-time director from Uruguay with a script by ‘Juno’ writer Diablo Cody. Not too many people were happy about that. However, now that the film has opened in theaters everywhere, everyone seems to be singing the praises for this remake.

When WWE, the Connecticut-based wrestling company, started producing films, not too many people were excited. They were essentially vehicles for wrestling stars to get more mainstream media exposure. There were a few hits here and there, but largely, these movies were misses.

Things eventually changed and WWE started to step up their game. When it comes to sports-entertainment and social media technologies the WWE's got it covered, but with their recent slate of movies, they really kicked their film division up a notch.

Another Official Selection of the 21st Annual Philadelphia Film Festival has made it's way back to the Philadelphia Silver Screens. Adam Leon's‘Gimme The Loot’ opens at the Ritz Bourse this weekend.

Borrowing it’s title from the classic Biggie tune, ‘Gimme The Loot’ follows two teenagers as they plan a scheme to become the most famous graffiti artists in New York by putting their tag on the infamous Mets' home-run apple.

Director Adam Leon was in town last October during PFF21 to present the film to Festival attendees.

Blue Valentine may not be a classic like Casablanca or Star Wars, but when it came out three years ago, it set the indie film world a flutter with news of a festival darling that pleased critics and audiences alike. I just wasn’t in any of those audiences, not even when it screened in the 19th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival. Dilcia's SXSW Experience

This year marked SXSW Film’s 20th edition and my first time attending. I was warned by many of SXSW’s chaotic nature because Austin converts into a hub of thousands of people in search of the latest innovations in music, technology, and of course film. The weather was nice, the food was awesome, and the lines were surprisingly easy to master – only requires a little bit of discipline to wake up early and obtain a Festival Exxpress pass for entrance priority.

After premiering at Cannes Film Festival, ‘The Sapphires’ came to Philadelphia for PFF21 and received as much fanfare as it did in France. Audiences embraced the true story of four talented young Aboriginal girls, plucked from obscurity and transformed into a soulful Motown-style singing group.

Now, the film based on the hit Australian play is open for all to see at the Ritz Five and to promote it, director Wayne Blair paid our good city a visit.

As of this morning, there is officially one week remaining in our Kickstarter campaign to get the Roxy Theater back to it’s former glory. And thanks to the 395 incredible backers so far, we’ve reached our goal of $40,000.00! With this post, we’d like to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the cause to restore the last remaining independent theater in Center City.

While we here at the Philadelphia Film Society are eternally grateful for the contributions thus far, the proceeds from Kickstarter are only a small portion of what we require to fully restore the Roxy.
