I saw the Philadelphia Film Society screening of In the Land of Blood and Honey more than a week ago, yet I kept putting off writing my commentary. Why? Because I have a hard and fast rule when it comes to movie/film genres - I don't see war movies!  I've never seen Bridge Over River Kwai, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, The Hurt Locker etc...

Last night PFS Sneak Previewed The Five-Year Engagement - Tom (Jason Segel) asks Violet (Emily Blunt) to marry him on the rooftop of the San Francisco restaurant where Tom is a sou chef. Violet accepts, they've been together for a year and all is perfect. Perfect that is until Violet gets offered a position at Michigan University in the Psychology department and Tom agrees they'll relocate there for the two years of her program. Only two years turns into five; the passage of time punctuated with the death of yet another grandparent.

I'm certain Patton Oswalt(Spence from King of Queens) never thought he'd ever get a chance to have a love scene with Charlize Theron. His romance with Rachel Dratch on the TV series was most likely more romantic action than he'd ever thought to see as a character actor.

Surprisingly, it's the chemistry between these two actors which allows Young Adult to find its footing and likeability.

Without knowing the details of the film, someone walking past a poster for My Week with Marilyn would certainly think it was yet another Marilyn Monroe biopic. They would, however, be mistaken. Though a spitting image of the Hollywood icon, the face staring out from the glossy posters is not Marilyn’s but Michelle Williams’.
