- Film Festival
Saturday, July 16th PFS went to the annual Bastille Day Celebration at Eastern State Penitentiary to promote our upcoming 12 Monkeys screening held at the Penitentiary on the following Wednesday. We gave out a ton of free movie schwag, made some new friends and took in the Parisian atmosphere.
That following Wednesday was our filmadelphiaCLASSICS screening of 12 Monkeys and despite the heat, the SOLD OUT event was a huge success. We'd like to thank everyone who participated and attended the screening especially everyone at Eastern State Penitentiary.
A few PFS Members and Staff went on a private tour of the Penitentiary before the screening. We didn't see any ghosts but we learned a lot of cool information about what was once one of the most famous and expensive prisons in the world. Did you know that originally prisoners at the Penitentiary lived in complete solitary confinement? They were led to their cells wearing masks, the cells were equipped with a feed door, toilet, work table, bed and access to a private exercise yard, everything you'd need to live in total isolation. The theory was that their negative environment influenced the prisoners to commit crime thus removing any communication or contact with the outside world would make them feel remorseful and return them to being regular law abiding citizens!
After the tour we opened the doors and herds of people stormed the prison walls with their chairs and blankets for the 12 Monkeys screenings!
Below are pictures from our day at Eastern State Penitentiary!
